Most quality bags currently have a reinforced strap that has steel cable embedded inside the strap. With the purse over the shoulder it is harder for a purse snatcher to loop his arm into the strap and yank it away. If the bag carrier is entering a place where there might be an assault or attempted snatching, it is easy to open the carry compartment and have a hand on the grip of the pistol inside the concealed pocket until this area is left behind. Just think ahead and use the purse to get a jump on a possible problem.
A concealed purse must not be too heavy. Minimizing the weight of materials can make a purse more attractive and useful. Adding the weight of a pistol to a purse that is already too heavy will surely get the purse left behind for another. Designers need to cut down weight to keep from creating shoulder strain. Some of the well designed purses have been built with locking options for the concealed compartment. This does improve safety, but can be a hindrance when the user needs access to the gun.
There are some variations in concealed carry purse design from one designer to another. For example locking may be included on one designer's purses while not on another. It will be up to the user to decide which options that need to be included in a purse that they purchase. Most of the quality concealed carry purses today will come with a holster included in the concealed compartment.
Usually these holsters are attached to the inside of the compartment with velcro. The velcro will let the user vary the angle of the holster so the proper drawing angle can be established. There is variation in the size of these holsters so that they can properly hold securely various sizes of pistols. Each of the holsters are made of Kydex, which is a very hard material that retains its shape. When a holster is made for a specific pistol. If you try to put a different pistol in the holster it can be very dangerous because of the misfit. Such a placement might let the pistol move causing a discharge.
